For quite some time, I have been compiling a list in my head of the best and most overlooked shops and restaurants in Williamsburg. The first one I would like to share is the most amazing cupcake bakery, Cupcakeland on Metropolitan Ave. For those of you who live in the neighborhood, you’ve probably walked by this place a million times.  And from the outside, it looks like a hot pink mess… like a child’s toy shop gone horribly wrong. One day for no particular reason at all, I just went inside, ordered 1 cupcake, and ate it right at the register. Half way through it, I realized holy sh-t this is seriously good!  From that moment I was seriously hooked. They are the lightest, fluffiest, and melt in your mouth treasures. The next time you walk by, do yourself a favor and get the carrot, peanut butter, and red velvet flavors.  I brought a bunch of these cupcakes with me to a dinner party and I received so many emails the next day about where I had purchased them. So best kept secret #1 is definitely Cupcakeland.

Best kept secret #2 is beauty shop extraordinaire Miomia on Bedford Ave.  Forget going to the city to buy your products at the dreaded Sephora.  This place is sooo ooo ooo much better.  It is so awesome that even my boyfriend loves coming here.  The product selection is spot on and impeccably edited.  The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and through their recommendations, I was introduced to a stem-cell night cream that has made an enormous difference in my skin.  Now my only problem is that I keep coming back for more!

Best kept secret #3 is St. Anslem restaurant on Metropolitan Ave.  I am not sure how much of a secret this place is anymore, but why pay $100 for the Luger steak when you can get the equally scrumptious $15 butcher steak instead.  I went for dinner a few weekends ago and the food, wine, and service were fantastic.  $40 covered wine, appetizers, entrees, dessert and even gratuity.  Highlights included the house wine, spinach gratin, pan fried mashed potatoes, leg of lamb, butcher steak and chocolate pot de creme.  There can be quite a long wait, but I definitely think it is worth the time.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my favorite neighborhood spots. Hopefully you will be able to try them out for yourself as well!
